TESTIMONIALS

I recently had my first private reformer Pilates session at GRITT in Islip, NY and I’m still thinking about how exceptional it was. As someone entirely new to reformer Pilates, I walked in with the typical beginner’s blend of curiosity and uncertainty. What I experienced was nothing short of transformative.

Sarai, the instructor and owner, is the real deal. Her expertise and knowledge were immediately obvious—the kind of mastery that comes from years of dedication and genuine passion for what she does. But here’s what truly set her apart: she made me feel like I belonged there from the first moment, despite being a complete novice. There was no intimidation, no pretense, just an authentic commitment to meeting me exactly where I was.

Throughout the session, Sarai coached me through every movement with remarkable clarity. Her instructions were precise yet accessible, her praise supportive and genuine, and her corrections kind but anchored in high expectations. What struck me most was her obvious belief in my ability to achieve the goal. She saw potential in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. That’s not just good coaching—that’s the kind of mentorship that changes people.

Equally impressive was watching her simultaneously guide my girlfriend through the same routine, adapting seamlessly to her more advanced skill level. The attention to detail, the personalized feedback, the ability to hold space for two people at different levels—it was masterful.

By the end of what was genuinely a hard workout, I felt accomplished, energized, and eager to return. The physical challenge was real and undeniable, but the mental and emotional boost was just as significant.

The studio itself reflects the same thoughtfulness evident in Sarai’s teaching. It’s impeccably clean, conveniently located on Main Street in Islip, and filled with positive psychology messaging throughout the space. As someone who works in positive psychology, I recognized immediately how intentional this was—these aren’t just decorative quotes, they’re carefully chosen reminders that will genuinely impact members’ mindsets and motivation. Period.

GRITT embodies its tagline: “Fortitude to Push Forward.” This isn’t a place where you’re just another body in a crowded class. The semi-private format (never more than 6-8 people) ensures you’re truly seen, coached, and supported. The community Sarai is building here is rooted in courage, character, and genuine connection.

If you’re looking for a fitness experience that challenges your body while respecting your journey, honors where you are while believing in where you can go, and surrounds you with both expertise and encouragement—this is your place. I highly recommend GRITT without hesitation, and I’m already looking forward to our next session.

Thank you, Sarai, for creating something truly special. Your passion is contagious, your coaching is exceptional, and your belief in your members inspires them to reach higher and stretch further. Keep doing what you’re doing—you’re making a real difference and doing #goodwork!

Absolutely LOVE GRITT! ♥️ Found this place about 2 years ago when I was looking for a new kickboxing studio as the one I used to go to was too far from my home. I did try one place first (a chain kickboxing studio) and felt so uncomfortable with so many things (from the owner, to the favoritism in classes, etc)—it just felt awkward to be there. After “pulling teeth”, I was able to cancel my membership at that place and went on the hunt again for another studio.

After googling, I found GRIT
T so I reached out and went to the studio to meet Sarai (the owner). One could tell she has such a passion and care for fitness, Her heart is in her studio and those who come through her doors. I gave GRITT a try and within a day, I got a membership and have been a member since (started in 2023). Sarai and all her instructors are always so welcoming, encouraging, etc. And those who attend the classes are just as warm and kind. Everyone helps one another and encourages each other, which is something I love. The studio itself is clean and there are a bunch of times to choose from for class. They also do so much giving back to the community which I absolutely love too! If you are looking for an encouraging community with a dedicated owner and awesome instructors whose hearts are “all in” to helping you become the best version of yourself, GRITT is your place! Strongly recommend!! 🥊

I’ve been a member at GRITT long enough to understand that this place is very intentional about what it stands for. It’s not a big-box gym or your typical Pilates studio. Classes are semi-private, which means you’re never lost in a crowd. There are usually no more than eight people, and the coaches actually correct your form. They remember your injuries. They notice when your alignment is off. They push you when you need it and pull you back when you need that too. What I appreciate most is that everything feels structured. The programming isn’t random. Whether it’s Pilates, cardio kickboxing, or functional strength training, there’s progression. You build strength over time. You build confidence over time. And you’re expected to show up consistently and you can really notice getting stronger. They have very clear policies and expectations, which I personally respect. It creates accountability on both sides. You know what you’re signing up for, and the team follows through on what they promise. It’s not a “drop in whenever, no one notices” kind of place. If you miss class, they notice. If you hit a milestone, they celebrate you.
The energy in the room is strong but not competitive. It’s really supportive. There’s a sense that everyone is working on becoming better both physically and mentally. It’s one of the few places I’ve been where discipline and community exist at the same time. This isn’t a trendy workout spot. It’s a place that something different. I still can’t put a name on it but it’s powerful. And if you commit to it, it will absolutely change you. Thank you for what you’ve done for me.

GRITT Studio is a place where I’ve found a sense of belonging. From the very first class, I felt like I was part of something bigger than just working out. Everyone here, from the trainers to the members, is so supportive and encouraging. It’s like joining a fitness family. For me, it’s been about more than just getting in shape. GRITT has helped me carve out time for myself, something I didn’t realize I needed so much. It’s a space where I can let go of the daily stress, push myself, and actually enjoy working out. The classes are fun and challenging, and the energy in the studio is so contagious. Over time, I’ve noticed not just physical changes but also a boost in my confidence and mindset. If you’re looking for a spot to not only get stronger but also connect with others and feel good about yourself, GRITT is it. I’m so glad I took the leap—this place has truly made fitness fun and fulfilling for me.

Sarai’s the kind of trainer who genuinely cares about people. She has the knowledge and the experience to help you reach your goals, and she’s always striving to bring out the best in everyone she works with.

She goes out of her way to support active-duty military, law enforcement, first responders, veterans, and local small businesses. Just a solid person who puts her heart and soul into what she does — which, ultimately, means putting her heart and soul into you.
