How to Stay Motivated When Results Plateau

Real talk: It happens to the best of us.

You’ve been showing up. Training, eating better, getting into a rhythm and then suddenly, things feel... stuck. You’re not seeing the same progress you did in the beginning. It’s frustrating, and it’s easy to think something’s wrong. But this is completely normal.

Plateaus are part of the process. They don’t mean you’ve failed, they just mean your body’s adjusting.

So, what’s going on?

The body is smarter than we think. Over time, it adapts to what we’re doing. That’s why what worked in the first few weeks might not work forever. Sometimes you just need to tweak a few things, not start over.

There are also other factors: stress, poor sleep, not eating enough, or not recovering properly. Even just doing the same workouts without variety can make your body hit pause.

What can you do about it?

COME BACK TO YOUR REASON
Why did you start? Was it to feel stronger? To move better? To have more energy for your day? That reason still matters, especially now.

TRY SWITCHING THINGS UP
Change your pace. Try a new class. Add a day of recovery. The body (and the mind) love a bit of variety. Even small changes can wake things up again.

LOOK AT OTHER WINS

The scale or the mirror don’t tell the whole story. Maybe you're lifting heavier, feeling more confident, or sleeping better. That’s all real progress.

DON'T GO AT IT ALONE
This is where having a coach or support system helps. Sometimes it just takes someone looking from the outside to help you adjust and move forward.

Not sure where to begin?

If you’ve ever felt like you’re putting in the effort but not really seeing the results you want… you’re not alone. A lot of people think the answer is doing more. More workouts. More intensity. More sweat. But most of the time, it’s not about doing more. It’s about having structure. Because without it, even the hardest work can feel like you’re just spinning your wheels.

Let’s be honest. Starting over is frustrating. You finally get into a routine, you feel good, you’re consistent… and then life happens. You miss a few sessions. Then a week. Then suddenly it feels like you’re back at square one.

If you’ve ever taken a Pilates class and thought, “This feels completely different,” you’re not wrong. It’s slower. More controlled. Sometimes even frustrating in the beginning. But here’s what a lot of people don’t realize… Pilates can actually make you better at everything else you do in the studio, especially strength training and kickboxing. Not just a little better. Noticeably better.

I get this question a lot. Someone walks into the studio, looks at the reformer machines, then looks at the mats on the floor and asks, “Which one should I start with?” And honestly, it is a fair question. They might look similar online, but they feel completely different once you actually try them. So instead of giving you a technical answer, let me break it down the way I usually explain it to clients.

A lot of people start their fitness journey with good intentions but no real plan. They show up, pick a few exercises they remember, maybe jump on a treadmill, try a few machines, then call it a day. The next time they come in, they do something completely different. There is nothing wrong with being active. Moving your body in any way is always a positive step. But if you have ever felt like you are putting in effort without really seeing progress, the reason might be simpler than you think. You might just be training without structure.

A lot of people start exercising with a goal that has a deadline. Maybe there is a trip coming up. Maybe there is a wedding or a big event. Sometimes it is just that moment when you look at yourself and think it is time to start taking care of your health again. So people go all in. They work out almost every day, try to change their eating habits overnight, and push themselves really hard.

Most people start a fitness routine because they feel motivated. Something sparks that decision. Maybe it is the start of a new month. Maybe your clothes feel tighter than usual. Maybe you saw someone’s transformation and thought, I want to feel like that too. In the beginning, motivation feels strong. You feel excited to work out. You plan your schedule around training. You imagine how great it will feel once you get stronger and healthier. But after a few weeks, something very normal happens. Motivation fades. Work gets busy. You feel tired. Maybe you miss a workout or two. Suddenly the excitement you felt at the beginning is not as strong anymore. And that is completely normal. The truth is, motivation was never meant to carry you forever. What actually leads to real results is something much simpler. Consistency.

If you watch a Pilates class for the first time, it might not look very intense. There is no loud music. No heavy barbells dropping on the floor. No one racing through exercises. The movements are controlled. Slow. Sometimes almost subtle.

Cardio kickboxing gets a lot of talk. Some folks think it’s just for hardcore fighters. Others call it a calorie-burning fad. And plenty of people believe you have to already be in great shape before you step into a class. None of that really holds up. If you’ve been curious but a little nervous, let’s set the record straight.

Most people show up to cardio kickboxing for one reason: they want to sweat. But what keeps them coming back isn’t just the workout. It’s the shift they feel in their minds.
